Vietnam men's volleyball team finalizes 18-player roster in preparation for SEA Games 33

The Vietnam men's volleyball team has officially finalized an 18-player roster for the important preparation phase targeting SEA Games 33-2025 in Thailand. This list was carefully chosen by head coach Trần Đình Tiền and his assistants after observing the players' form during the second phase of the 2025 National Championship.

According to the announcement from the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, the 18 selected players are: Đinh Văn Duy, Nguyễn Ngọc Thuân, Phạm Văn Hiệp, Trần Duy Tuyến, Trương Thế Khải, Phan Công Đức, Cao Đức Hoàng, Phạm Thanh Tùng, Hoàng Xuân Trường, Nguyễn Thanh Hải, Trịnh Duy Phúc, Trần Anh Tú, Nguyễn Xuân Đức, Phạm Quốc Dư, Huỳnh Trung Trực, Dương Văn Tiên, Nguyễn Văn Quốc Duy, and Quản Trọng Nghĩa.

Among them, the reigning national champions Biên Phòng MB club contribute five players: Văn Duy, Ngọc Thuân, Văn Hiệp, Duy Tuyến, and Thế Khải. The 2025 season runners-up, Thể Công Tân Cảng club, have three players called up: Công Đức, Đức Hoàng, and Thanh Tùng. Notably, middle blocker Phạm Thanh Tùng is a newcomer making his debut in the national team after an impressive performance at the national championship.

Veteran outside hitters Trần Anh Tú and Nguyễn Xuân Đức stand out in this training phase. After being absent from the team for a period, both have regained high form in the domestic league and were given the opportunity to return by coach Trần Đình Tiền. If they perform well during training, they are very likely to secure official spots for SEA Games 33.

Compared to the early-year training list, the team no longer includes Chế Quốc Lô Vít, Phạm Xuân Sinh, and Phạm Thoại Khương. This change reflects the determination to refresh the squad, aiming to balance experience and youth in the journey to restore Vietnam men's volleyball’s regional status.

According to the plan, the team will train starting from October 25 at Bac Ninh University of Sports and Physical Education. During this phase, the coaching staff will focus on enhancing physical fitness, refining tactics, and organizing outdoor training sessions to improve coordination and cohesion among players.

The plan is to reduce the roster to 14 players before heading to Thailand in early December to compete in SEA Games 33. This stage is considered critical for the head coach to finalize the tactical framework and select the core players for the official competition lineup.

In the last two SEA Games, Vietnam men's volleyball has achieved impressive results: a silver medal at SEA Games 31 (hosted at home in 2022) and a bronze medal at SEA Games 32 in Cambodia. This year’s competition will feature seven teams, with the strongest rivals being Thailand (host), Indonesia (defending champions), along with the Philippines, Cambodia, and Myanmar.
