Set 1: Japan 12-25 Brazil
From the very first rallies, Brazil demonstrated superiority in every aspect. The South American hitters' powerful and accurate serves continuously troubled Japan's first pass. The Cherry Blossom team often found themselves on the back foot, unable to execute their usual fast-paced play.
The gap widened steadily, and Gabi and her teammates had an impeccable start in the battle for third place.
Set 2: Japan 17-25 Brazil
At the start of set 2, Japan showed some improvement by staying close in the early points. However, mid-set, Brazil once again displayed their resilience and superior strength.
Their diverse offense, with powerful wing spikes and quick middle attacks, helped them pull ahead. Effective blocking also made it difficult for Japan to finish points. Brazil won this set 25-17 and was just one set away from the bronze medal.
Set 3: Japan 25-19 Brazil
Set 3 witnessed a strong resurgence from Japan. After two losing sets, the Asian team started determinedly and surprisingly scored an impressive 5-0 run before Brazil scored their first point. Their speed and agile movements caused many problems for Brazil's defense.
Though Brazil gradually regained rhythm, they no longer dominated completely. Winning set 3 was crucial for Ishikawa and her teammates.
Set 4: Japan 29-27 Brazil
Set 4 was the most intense and dramatic of the match. Brazil started better, quickly building a 5-0 lead. However, Japan remained unfazed, gradually closing the gap with fast play and resilient defense.
When the score was tied, both teams exchanged points fiercely. From 20 points onward, the race became extremely tight. Ultimately, with composure and persistent fighting spirit, Japan successfully converted the set-point to win 29-27, pushing the match into a decisive fifth set.
