Three minutes daily to catch up on global tennis news. Hello tennis fans, today is Monday, October 27, 2025. Welcome to the midday news report brought to you by "Tennis Home."

Last night Beijing time, the two ATP 500 indoor hard court events concluded spectacularly. In Vienna, top seed and world No. 2 Sinner overcame a thigh cramp in the deciding set to come back from 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 against second seed and German star Zverev, claiming the title for the second time after 2023. This marked Sinner’s fourth title this season and the 22nd of his career, closing in on Alcaraz’s 24 titles. After this match, Sinner and Zverev are now tied 4-4 in their head-to-head record.

In Basel, 19-year-old Brazilian rising star Fonseca showed great form, defeating eighth seed and Spanish veteran Fognini 6-3, 6-4, extending his unbeaten streak against Fognini to two matches and capturing his first-ever ATP 500 title. This is Fonseca’s second career singles trophy, having won both finals he reached. Thanks to this victory, Fonseca broke into the world top 30 for the first time this week.

After the match, Fonseca said his parents had flown in from Brazil before the tournament to witness his victory live. "It’s unbelievable! It’s hard to put into words because we’ve been through so much. I want to thank my family and coach for helping me achieve this amazing milestone. My parents were originally going to Paris but changed their flight and arrived just an hour before the match. Having them here to see the most important title of my career is incredible. I feel so honored to play this sport and I’m really happy." Meanwhile, Fognini lost his fifth final in a row, failing to win a single set in these matches, continuing his unfortunate streak of falling short in finals. What do you think is holding Fognini back in these decisive matches?

Turning to the women’s tour, yesterday Beijing time, the WTA 250 Guangzhou International Women’s Tennis Open concluded successfully. In the singles final, second seed American Gigi Lee defeated New Zealand qualifier Lulu Sun 7-6(6), 6-2 without dropping a set to claim the title. This is Lee’s first tour-level championship in four years and the second of her career.

At the WTA 500 Tokyo tournament, fifth seed and Swiss veteran Bencic defeated sixth seed Czech rising star Noskova 6-2, 6-3 in the singles final, securing her second title of the season, seventh at the 500 level, and tenth overall in her career. Bencic previously reached the Tokyo final in 2015 but lost to Polish star A. Radwanska. Ten years later, now a mother, she has finally upgraded from a smaller trophy to a bigger one. This win has boosted Bencic’s live ranking to No. 11, edging closer to the top 10.

Looking ahead to this week’s tournaments, three WTA 250 events will begin around noon Beijing time today. In yesterday’s qualifying rounds, young Chinese player Guo Hanyu advanced from the Jiujiang event to the main draw, where she will face Cornet in the first round. Meanwhile, Ma Yexin qualified from the Hong Kong event and will play Buksha in her opening match. Best of luck to our Chinese players in Hong Kong and Jiujiang!

Finally, a little guessing game. The photo below shows a player during a match. Without any hints, can you identify who she is?

Last time’s guess was answered correctly by some fans. Yes, the person in the picture is men’s world No. 1 Alcaraz.
