Serena Williams has shown her support for Alcaraz from afar; I watch all his matches and believe he will surpass Djokovic's record!

Recently, retired American tennis star Serena Williams publicly declared on a show that she will always be Alcaraz's cheerleader, a senior player's distant show of affection that sparked heated discussions online.

“Alcaraz is accomplishing amazing feats. I’m one of his biggest supporters. I always cheer him on,” said 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams at the 2025 Princess of Asturias Awards press conference held in Spain, praising the young Spanish tennis star.

When asked if she believes Alcaraz can break Djokovic’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles, Serena Williams responded, “At this point, anything is possible.”

Serena Williams explained that her admiration for Alcaraz comes from her long-standing attention to Spanish tennis.

“Of course, I know it well; Spaniards have been at the top level for a long time,” Serena said. She further elaborated, “When Federer started his career, no one thought he could surpass Sampras, but he did. Then Nadal did the same, followed by Djokovic.”

Serena Williams emphasized, “Carlos is still young and faces strong opponents, but it’s definitely possible. Records are meant to be broken.”

At 22, Alcaraz has become the world No.1 in men’s tennis, having won six Grand Slam titles. He is also the youngest male player in tennis history to have won two Grand Slams on hard, clay, and grass courts. Since winning the 2022 US Open, Alcaraz has claimed Wimbledon and French Open titles twice each and recently secured another US Open championship this year.

Although Alcaraz has achieved remarkable success, surpassing Djokovic’s 24 Grand Slam titles remains a huge challenge. Djokovic currently holds 24 Grand Slam championships, a record unmatched in men’s tennis history.

Alcaraz currently has 6 Grand Slam titles. To reach the goal of 25, he still needs to win 19 more.

Former pro player Robson commented, “They’re talking about winning three to four Grand Slams a year to match Djokovic’s record, and just thinking about that sounds a bit absurd.”

Nevertheless, this is not the first time Serena Williams has publicly supported the younger generation of tennis players. As one of the greatest female tennis players in history, she has always kept an eye on the sport’s development and frequently encourages and supports the newcomers. Serena’s view on whether Alcaraz can break the record stems from her personal experience witnessing multiple record-breaking moments in tennis.

She has seen Federer surpass Sampras, then Nadal and Djokovic successively break records, and this unique perspective gives her predictions special weight.

Alcaraz’s Grand Slam record this year is 24 wins and 2 losses, with his only defeats coming in the Australian Open quarterfinals against Djokovic and the Wimbledon final against Sinner. If he can maintain this winning rate and avoid serious injuries, the tennis record books might indeed be rewritten for him.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Lu Xiaotian)
