Novak Djokovic unexpectedly withdraws from the Paris Masters, reveals remaining schedule for the year

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has officially confirmed his withdrawal from the 2025 Paris Masters, a Masters 1000 event scheduled from October 27 to November 2.

Djokovic — currently ranked No. 5 in the world — posted on social media: "Dear Paris, unfortunately I will not be participating in @RolexPMasters this year. I have wonderful memories and great success over the years, especially winning the title seven times. Hope to see you again next year. Thank you."

In his announcement, Djokovic did not specify the reason for his withdrawal but confirmed he still plans to return to the tournament in 2026.

Djokovic has not played at the Paris Masters since winning his record seventh title in 2023 and also skipped the event in 2024. In the 2025 season, the 38-year-old has participated in very few major tournaments. At the recent Shanghai Masters, he was eliminated in the semifinals by Valentin Vacherot. After the match, he said: "Now is the time to rest and truly address some physical issues... Then, hopefully, I can play a few of the last tournaments of the season, let's wait and see."

This shows Djokovic is prioritizing his physical condition and carefully selecting tournaments instead of competing as frequently as before.

For the rest of 2025, Djokovic will take part in the Hellenic Championship (ATP 250) held in Athens from November 2 to 8. This is the only confirmed tournament he will compete in after Paris.

Whether Djokovic will participate in the ATP Finals remains uncertain. Djokovic stated: "I am no longer making long-term plans... so after Shanghai, the only tournament I know for sure I will play is the one in Athens, and then we will see if I compete in Turin."

In 2025, Djokovic reached the semifinals at all four Grand Slams. Additionally, he won the Geneva Open — the 100th ATP Tour title of his career. However, his withdrawal from the Paris Masters might impact his ability to earn points and keep a high ranking.

Novak Djokovic is entering a phase of "selective tournament participation" in his career, prioritizing his physical health and tournaments he feels are suitable. His withdrawal from the Paris Masters — where he has won seven times — confirms a strategic change for the legendary player.
