Zheng Qinwen’s ranking drops again! Only three Chinese players remain in the TOP100 for both men’s and women’s singles

The last Grand Slam of the 2025 season has come to an end. To start, here is a recap of the winners. In the spotlighted singles event, Alcaraz overcame defending champion Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the men’s final to win the US Open again after a three-year gap.

Throughout the match, Alcaraz fired 42 winners and 10 aces, dominating Sinner especially on crucial points. This victory also ended Sinner’s 27-match winning streak in hard-court Grand Slams and his 65-week reign as the men’s world No.1.

The women’s singles title went to Belarusian star Sabalenka, who defeated home favorite and 8th seed Anisimova 6-3, 7-6 last Saturday. Sabalenka won the US Open for the second consecutive year, marking her fourth Grand Slam title overall. This season, she has achieved an impressive record of one title, two runner-ups, and one semifinal in the four majors.

For this year’s singles champions, besides earning 2000 ranking points, the prize money surged from $3.6 million last year to $5 million this year, which is a remarkable increase. Sabalenka’s tournament earnings alone have surpassed $12 million this season, reflecting substantial income.

The men’s and women’s doubles titles were claimed by the pairs Granollers/Zeballos (seeded 5) and Dabrowski/Luettrif (seeded 3), respectively. Earlier, Errani teamed up with Vavassori to win the mixed doubles championship.

With a new week underway, the latest WTA and ATP world rankings have been released. Sabalenka holds a commanding lead as the women’s world No.1. Following her are Swiatek, Gauff, Anisimova, Andreescu, Keys, Pegula, Paolini, Zheng Qinwen, and Rybakina.

The depth of American women’s tennis is evident, occupying nearly half of the top ten spots (4 players). Chinese star Zheng Qinwen dropped two places from last week to No.9. Behind her, Wang Xinyu ranks 35th, while Yuan Yue slipped two spots to fall outside the TOP100. Below is the current ranking status of Chinese female players:

No.9 Zheng Qinwen

No.35 Wang Xinyu

No.102 Yuan Yue

No.111 Zhang Shuai

No.138 Wang Xiyu

No.162 Gao Xinyu

No.184 Wei Sijia

No.198 Guo Hanyu

From the rankings, it’s clear that except for Zheng Qinwen and Wang Xinyu who are among first and second-tier players, the other Chinese stars are mostly ranked outside the top 100, which is a significant difference compared to several seasons ago when multiple Chinese players consistently stayed within the top 100.

The men’s singles situation is even more concerning. This week, only Bu Yunchaokete remains in the top 100 at No.74. Following him are Shang Juncheng at No.137, Zhang Zhizhen at No.191, Wu Yibing at No.195, Sun Fajing at No.236, and Cui Jie at No.294.

We look forward to more Chinese players earning points and improving their world rankings during the upcoming Asian season!(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
