Shocked by the prize money Alcaraz pocketed after winning the US Open

The 2025 US Open has broken records again with the biggest prize fund ever in tennis. The total prize money this year reaches 90 million USD, up 20% from the previous year’s 75 million USD, far outpacing the other three Grand Slam events.

Carlos Alcaraz became the focal point of the tennis world after clinching the 2025 US Open title. The final held in New York saw the 22-year-old Spaniard defeat Jannik Sinner with dominant form, reclaiming the world number one ranking.

With this result, he improved his head-to-head record against Sinner to 8-3 and took the lead in the sequence of three consecutive Grand Slam finals between them. Previously, Alcaraz won at Roland Garros, while Sinner avenged himself at Wimbledon. In New York, Alcaraz demonstrated his composure with powerful serves and versatile play, leaving the Italian unable to turn the match around.

This year, the US Open reaffirmed its status as the tournament with the largest prize pool in tennis history. Organizers announced a total prize money of 90 million USD, a 20% increase from last year’s 75 million USD. This figure far exceeds that of the other three Grand Slams, making the Flushing Meadows event a true “goldmine” for top players.

Jannik Sinner left with a prize of 2.5 million USD, a substantial amount but not enough to console the defeat. Meanwhile, the victory earned Alcaraz as much as 5 million USD. The Spaniard’s consistency is opening a new era of dominance in men’s tennis worldwide.

In the women’s singles, Aryna Sabalenka also made a big impact by overcoming American Amanda Anisimova to claim the title. Sabalenka received prize money equal to Alcaraz’s 5 million USD, while runner-up Anisimova earned 2.5 million USD. This was Anisimova’s second consecutive Grand Slam final, highlighting the young American’s remarkable progress. A year ago, Sabalenka earned 3.6 million USD after defeating Jessica Pegula and has now elevated her achievements to a new level.

The huge prize pool of the US Open is not only focused on the champions. Even players who make it to the main draw are guaranteed a payout of 110,000 USD. Those advancing past the round of 64 receive 154,000 USD, the round of 32 winners get 237,000 USD, and semifinalists earn 1.26 million USD. This demonstrates the exceptional appeal and strong investment of the year’s final Grand Slam event.
