US Open update: In the recently finished women's singles final, Sabalenka defeated Anisimova 2-0 to take the championship. The scores were 6-3 and 7-6.

Sabalenka truly deserves her world number one status, having made three Grand Slam finals this year and finally winning one. She lost to Keys in the Australian Open final and to Gauff in the French Open final. After her victory over Anisimova, Sabalenka was in tears.

Anisimova’s skills have improved dramatically this year, reaching two Grand Slam finals but losing both. She was swept 0-2 by Swiatek at Wimbledon and then by Sabalenka at the US Open. If nothing unexpected happens, starting next year, the WTA will have a new top contender in Anisimova. She also cried after the loss, feeling very disappointed!
