Despite conceding a set to the former post-2000 benchmark player Auger-Aliassime and needing a medical break at one point, Sinner won 3-1 without major trouble, setting up a final showdown with Alcaraz, who had earlier defeated Djokovic at this year’s US Open.
This match unlocked another record for him: joining the ranks of the greats by reaching the final in all four Grand Slam tournaments within a single season. In doing so, he surpassed Federer to become the youngest player in history to achieve this feat.
Thus, Sinner has now advanced to the final in five consecutive Grand Slam tournaments. So, how does he rank in the record for most consecutive Grand Slam finals reached in men’s singles?
1️⃣ Federer: 10 consecutive finals (2005 Wimbledon – 2007 US Open)
2️⃣ Federer: 8 consecutive finals (2008 French Open – 2010 Australian Open)
The top two spots are both held by Federer. After losing in the 2005 Australian Open semifinals to Safin and the French Open semifinals to Nadal, he went on a streak of consecutive Grand Slam finals. Except for the French Open, where Nadal continued to block him, Federer dominated the other tournaments like an unstoppable force at his peak.
The only exception came at the 2008 Australian Open, where he was defeated in the semifinals by the younger Djokovic, who was in the same half of the draw. Had that not happened, Federer would have set an astonishing record of 19 consecutive Grand Slam final appearances.
Federer’s second streak lasted eight Grand Slams until an early upset at the 2010 French Open ended it. Since then, his competitiveness in Grand Slams has significantly declined.
3️⃣ Connors: 6 consecutive finals (1974 Australian Open – 1975 US Open)
Borg: 6 consecutive finals (1980 French Open – 1981 US Open)
Djokovic: 6 consecutive finals (2015 Australian Open – 2016 French Open)
Djokovic shares third place with the two legends Connors and Borg, each with six consecutive finals. Djokovic’s streak began at his home Grand Slam, the Australian Open, and ended after completing the career Grand Slam at Roland Garros in 2016. Afterwards, he suffered early exits, including a Wimbledon defense loss and a defeat by Wawrinka at the US Open. He did not return to a Grand Slam final until Wimbledon 2018.
4️⃣ Connors: 5 consecutive finals (1976 US Open – 1978 US Open)
Borg: 5 consecutive finals (1978 French Open – 1979 Wimbledon)
Nadal: 5 consecutive finals (2011 French Open – 2012 French Open)
Djokovic: 5 consecutive finals (2020 French Open – 2021 US Open)
Djokovic: 5 consecutive finals (2022 Wimbledon – 2023 US Open)
Sinner: 5 consecutive finals (2024 US Open – 2025 US Open)
Sinner’s current streak of five consecutive finals has been matched by many predecessors. Among them, Nadal achieved this during his peak years, notably in 2011, although that year he lost three Grand Slam finals to Djokovic, winning only the French Open against Federer, who had earlier eliminated Djokovic in the semifinals.
In recent years, the ever-improving Djokovic has repeatedly set new records. His previous streak ended with the 2022 Australian Open off-court incident, and in the 2024 Australian Open semifinals, he suffered a decisive defeat to Sinner.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Luo Cheng Qiye)
