Sabalenka has made it to another Grand Slam women’s singles final!
At the 2025 US Open, the women’s singles top half semifinal saw world No.1 and top seed Sabalenka take on local favorite and fourth seed Pegula, effectively a rematch of last year’s US Open final.
The match was highly thrilling. After dropping the first set, Sabalenka quickly adjusted her game and won the next two sets, completing a comeback victory over Pegula with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. This win secured a series of new records for the Belarusian star — reaching the US Open women’s final for three consecutive years, making six straight hard-court Grand Slam finals, and marking her third Grand Slam final this season and seventh overall in her career.
With this, Sabalenka has now achieved a 12-match winning streak at the US Open and is just one match away from successfully defending her title.
Looking at the stats from the Sabalenka vs. Pegula match, the Belarusian played with an aggressive and hot hand, hitting a total of 43 winners. Her ability to handle crucial points was key to her win, notably saving three break points in the deciding set.
“I really put in a huge effort to win this match. Beating Jessica makes me extremely happy; everyone knows she is an outstanding player and a tough competitor.”
“Of course, matches are always tough, but I’m very glad to reach the final here again. I hope to keep advancing round by round. Also, thank you all for creating such an amazing atmosphere.”
As the current world No.1 in women’s singles, Sabalenka’s dominance on court is quite formidable. This season alone, she has reached the finals of three Grand Slams: the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open.
However, Sabalenka has yet to claim a title in the first two Grand Slam finals this season. At the Australian Open earlier this year, she lost a close final to American player Keys with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 5-7.
At the French Open, Sabalenka fought through to the final where she faced American star Gauff. In another intense three-set battle, Sabalenka was defeated 7-6, 2-6, 4-6, missing her chance to lift the Roland Garros trophy for the first time.
Although she did not reach the final at Wimbledon, Sabalenka at least made it to the semifinals, where she was eliminated in a tough three-set match by American player Anisimova.
With Anisimova winning the other bottom-half semifinal by coming back to beat two-time champion Osaka 6-7(4), 7-6(3), 6-3, Sabalenka will face another American challenger in this year’s US Open women’s final. So, do you think she can claim victory this time?(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
