Messi is preparing to compete in Africa

Lionel Messi's Argentina national team has secured the opponent for their next friendly match, which is included in their preparation strategy for the 2026 World Cup.

Lionel Messi's Argentina squad has completed their preparation schedule for the 2026 World Cup and announced a notable change in their match itinerary. Unlike the usual two friendlies per FIFA window, coach Lionel Scaloni's team will play only one match in November. Their confirmed opponent is Angola, with the game set for November 15 (Vietnam time) in Luanda, the capital of this African country.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) revealed detailed plans about the team's assembly and travel. Instead of gathering in their home country, the entire squad will convene in Spain, chosen as the main training base for this camp.

Immediately after completing the friendly against Angola, the team will return to Europe to continue training until November 19, when the November FIFA Days officially conclude.

Initially, La Albiceleste planned an additional friendly against India, but this was canceled. The AFA then tried to arrange matches with other opponents but failed, resulting in the team scheduling only one game against Angola alongside their training camp in Spain.

As they approach the final phase of preparations, Argentina has planned friendly matches against Mexico and Honduras in the United States, regarded as the final rehearsals before the official start of the 2026 World Cup.

Additionally, early in 2023, Messi and his teammates might participate in the Finalissima against Spain, the current European champions. This encounter promises to be exciting, featuring Lionel Messi facing Lamine Yamal, one of the most promising football talents today. Although the date is not yet set, European media suggest the match will likely take place in March at Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
