Ruben Amorim: 'It only took 2 weeks for MU to transform everything'

Coach Ruben Amorim expressed his feelings following Manchester United’s impressive 4-2 win against Brighton in the 9th matchweek of the 2025/26 Premier League.

Ruben Amorim’s reaction after Manchester United extended their winning streak to three games was far from the usual calm demeanor. The Portuguese manager admitted he was genuinely overwhelmed by the electric atmosphere at Old Trafford as the Red Devils defeated Brighton 4-2 on home turf in the early hours of October 26 (Vietnam time).

The match grew tense in the final minutes after MU led 3-0 but Brighton narrowed the gap to one goal during stoppage time. Nevertheless, the Old Trafford side managed to hold on for the win, continuing their steady form for a squad that has often lacked consistency throughout the season.

Speaking about Man United’s transformation, Coach Ruben Amorim said after the match: "Clearly, you can all sense things are improving. Even when we arrived here to compete, I felt the atmosphere among everyone, no longer overwhelming as before.

The entire team was eager to play in front of the home crowd, and that was a completely new feeling. Today we enjoyed this joy, but tomorrow we must prepare for the next game. Just look at the standings; it only took 2 weeks for Man United to change completely. It’s difficult to maintain a positive vibe at the club right now, so we need to have the fear that we might slip back.”

Regarding his feelings about the recent match, Ruben Amorim was candid: “I feel very good. Three points at home, and we played well. Although it got a bit tough towards the end, partly due to our own mistakes, when you lead 3-0, you can sense that the fourth goal is closer than conceding.”

On the game tightening after leading 3-0, the 1985-born coach commented: “That’s something that can happen in football. The match was still under control, then you concede a goal. They have many talented players, good at ball possession, and they exploited their momentum to dominate the game. However, we are clearly improving in how we respond to difficult moments.”

After the third goal, the sound from the stands was unusual. It was a special moment, the first time I truly felt that atmosphere at Old Trafford. It was really a wonderful moment for me. Of course, we still had to focus on the match, but there are things at this stadium that you feel with your whole heart. And that feeling is strange, unforgettable.”

This is the first time Coach Ruben Amorim has led Manchester United to a three-game winning streak since taking over from Erik ten Hag last year. The victory over Brighton not only temporarily lifted the Red Devils to fourth place in the standings but also provided great motivation for the upcoming journey.
