Coach Anthony Hudson believes Thailand's national team can reach the World Cup finals if several aspects are improved.
On his debut day in Thai football, Coach Anthony Hudson made several notable statements. Among them, the English strategist expressed that the "War Elephants" fully aspire to compete in the World Cup:
“Of course, I believe Thailand has the capability to qualify for the World Cup,” Coach Hudson said. “But to make that a reality, we need to enhance many factors, including increasing international matches, developing young players, and improving the quality of domestic coaches. If we do these well, I believe Thai football can reach the biggest stage in the world,” he added.
Hudson, aged 44, was appointed Technical Director of the Football Association of Thailand in June 2025. In his coaching career, he has led the US national team (interim) in 2022-2023, New Zealand — reaching the World Cup 2018 playoff rounds — and Bahrain's U23 and senior teams. Additionally, he has experience coaching clubs in the US, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the English strategist has spent time working in Southeast Asia, giving him deep insight into football here, especially Thai football.
At the launch event, Coach Anthony Hudson also affirmed his goal to guide Thailand to the 2027 Asian Cup finals: “I want to lead Thailand to the 2027 Asian Cup finals. Anything can happen in the final moments, and I hope to achieve this goal.”
When asked about the former coach Masatada Ishii, Hudson expressed great respect:“I am aware of that. I respect Coach Ishii and what he has accomplished. I will inherit and build upon his work rather than change everything. Every coach has their own style, and I want to gradually introduce my ideas so the team can adapt step by step.”
