Recently, Chelsea's least recognized star matched the milestone set by Haaland and Mbappe.
Chelsea experienced a memorable night in the Champions League as Enzo Maresca's team secured an emphatic 5-1 victory over the giant Ajax, showcasing their clear superiority over the Dutch side.
Goals from Marc Guiu, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Estevao Willian, and Tyrique George helped Chelsea claim their second consecutive win in European competition, lifting them to 11th place in the overall standings. Champions League.
Coach Enzo Maresca made as many as 10 changes compared to the lineup that defeated Nottingham Forest 3-0 last weekend, but this had little impact as the West London side easily dominated Ajax in a brilliant evening at Stamford Bridge.
After a shaky start, Chelsea benefited when Ajax midfielder Kenneth Taylor received a direct red card following a VAR review for a dangerous foul on Facundo Buonanotte. Minutes later, Marc Guiu opened the scoring with a close-range finish assisted by defender Wesley Fofana. This goal made Guiu the fourth teenager in Champions League history to score for two different clubs.
Previously, Guiu scored for Barcelona in a 2-3 loss to Royal Antwerp in December 2023 at age 17. Now, at 19, he has netted his first Champions League goal for Chelsea, joining elite company such as Erling Haaland (RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund), Kylian Mbappe (AS Monaco and PSG), and George Ilenikhena (Royal Antwerp and AS Monaco).
Guiu was loaned to Sunderland by Chelsea in August but was quickly recalled due to Liam Delap’s injury. Once considered surplus to requirements, the young striker is now proving himself worthy as a leading figure in The Blues' attack.
Not only Guiu, but several other young Chelsea players also made history during the big win over Ajax. Guiu initially became Chelsea's youngest Champions League scorer, but this record was soon broken when Estevao Willian scored a penalty in first-half stoppage time.
In the second half, Tyrique George added another goal, making Chelsea the first club in Champions League history to have three teenage scorers in a single match. This also marks the first Premier League team since the 1992-93 season to have three teenage goal scorers in an official game.
Additionally, Jamie Gittens became Chelsea’s youngest player to create at least five chances in a Champions League match, breaking Eden Hazard’s previous record. Meanwhile, Reggie Walsh entered the history books as Chelsea’s youngest ever player to appear in the Champions League and the second youngest English player to feature in the competition, behind only Jack Wilshere.
