Before the trip to Deutsche Bank Park, Coach Arne Slot showed considerable prudence in talking about Eintracht Frankfurt, a side he rated as "very powerful and well-structured."
Frankfurt finished last season in third place in the Bundesliga and reached the Europa League quarter-finals, only being stopped by the champions Tottenham Hotspur. One of the standout players contributing to this success was Hugo Ekitike, the striker who recently joined Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Besides Ekitike, Liverpool also signed Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from the Bundesliga, making the upcoming reunion with the German team even more special. In the pre-match press conference, Coach Arne Slot praised the team led by Dino Toppmoller:
“They don’t regularly compete in the Champions League, but last season they advanced quite far in the Europa League. I recall their encounter with Tottenham, which was a very balanced tie. That result shows Frankfurt is a strong, experienced, and well-organized team both in the Bundesliga and Europe.”
The Dutch coach particularly warned his players about the impressive home form of the German side:
“We all know they beat Galatasaray 5-1 in their first home game this season. Meanwhile, we lost 0-1 to Galatasaray, which highlights just how dangerous Frankfurt can be. Although the results aren’t directly comparable, it’s a clear warning.”
Slot also recalled Frankfurt’s defeat against Atletico Madrid but considered it “not a major issue” since very few teams manage to earn points at Wanda Metropolitano.
“Frankfurt has many quality individuals and is managed by a long-serving coach. It will be an exciting and eagerly anticipated match,” he added.
In conclusion, Arne Slot shared his feelings about the special occasion for his players who have experience playing in Germany: “Not only is Hugo eager to return, but the Frankfurt fans will surely show him respect. He played a big role in helping them qualify for the Champions League. The same goes for Florian and Frimpong, who were very successful in the Bundesliga. This will be a very emotional game.”
