Harry Kane drew notice by referring to Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and David Beckham during an interview with GOAL, where the Bayern Munich forward talked about the players he respects the most throughout his career.
Over more than a decade competing at the highest level with Tottenham, Bayern Munich, and the England national team, Harry Kane has faced numerous top stars worldwide in the Champions League, Euros, and World Cup. When asked who the best player he has ever opposed is, the England captain admitted he could not choose between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Kane holds a special respect for Messi’s natural talent, seeing the Argentine superstar as the perfect example of ball control, vision, and creativity on the pitch. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo impresses Kane with his relentless fighting spirit and intense desire to win. According to Kane, the greatness of both players makes it impossible to pick who is better.
Not only stopping at rivals, Kane also shared about his childhood idol, David Beckham. The English striker mentioned that he and Beckham grew up in East London, played for the youth team Ridgeway Rovers, and attended Chingford Foundation School. “Beckham was my idol growing up. At Chingford, everyone talked about him. Seeing him rise from our small neighborhood to the top made my dream feel more real,” Kane said.
When discussing the players who impressed him most, Kane named Kevin De Bruyne as the best passer and N’Golo Kante as the toughest defensive midfielder to face. He also gave special praise to Jamal Musiala, his young teammate at Bayern Munich: “He’s very humble, eager to learn, and extremely talented. Musiala’s dribbling and movement are truly unique. He can change the course of a match at any moment.”
Although Musiala is currently sidelined with a serious injury at the 2025 Club World Cup, Bayern Munich continues to perform impressively with Kane having scored 19 goals in 11 matches this season, reaching 100 club career goals for Bayern despite only joining the German giants in summer 2023. With this form, Kane not only follows Beckham’s footsteps as an English football icon but also keeps hoping to help the national team conquer the 2026 World Cup.
After Messi and Ronaldo, could Harry Kane end his career with a major title for England and secure his place among the legends?
