Coach Jose Mourinho has expressed opinions on how teams play, and this was clarified following Ruben Amorim’s remarks.
Coach Ruben Amorim has had a turbulent start with Man Utd in the 2025/26 season. After the first four Premier League matches, the "Red Devils" have only won once, suffered two defeats, and were also eliminated from the Carabao Cup by fourth-tier side Grimsby Town.
However, what concerns Man Utd fans the most is the somewhat characterless style of play the team has shown in recent matches. Regarding Amorim, after the latest defeat in the Manchester derby, he did not hesitate to declare he will maintain the same tactics that he has implemented since arriving at Old Trafford in 2024, and insisted he will not change until he is dismissed.
Notably, in an interview with Canal 11 earlier this year, Jose Mourinho, former Man Utd coach, criticized managers with stubborn personalities. Additionally, the "Special One" emphasized the need for adaptability to change coaching mindsets.
Specifically, the Portuguese strategist stated: "There is no longer a single way of playing. Football has evolved, requiring comprehensive training methods and players who can adapt. Problems arise when coaches rigidly follow ideas without creating suitable conditions to apply them...
Some coaches fail and say: I will die with my philosophy. But if you stubbornly choose to die with that idea, that’s truly foolish. Coaches must know how to adjust their philosophy to fit the resources available."
Since being appointed as head coach at Old Trafford, Amorim has yet to secure two consecutive Premier League wins. Moreover, the 40-year-old manager has shown weakness in turning around difficult situations for Man Utd, putting him at greater risk of dismissal than ever before.
Following the recent loss, Man Utd currently sits 14th in the standings with only four points. If the situation does not improve soon, the "Red Devils" could sink further as they did last season, completely losing the status of one of the two greatest clubs in England.
