Good performance but still getting fired? Nuno clashes with Nottingham Forest executives, Mourinho set to take over

Nottingham Forest, two-time Champions League champions, almost earned a Champions League berth last season under Portuguese coach Nuno, but stumbled near the end. They still secured a place in European competition. Due to Crystal Palace’s relegation and participation in the Europa Conference League, Nottingham Forest will play in the Europa League this season. However, irreconcilable conflicts between head coach Nuno and the club’s newly appointed global football director Edu—who left Arsenal in November last year and joined Nottingham Forest in July—led owner Marinakis to side with Edu, signaling Nuno’s departure.

According to reports from TA, Record, Romano, and other media outlets, Nuno is about to leave Nottingham Forest, not because of results but due to internal club disputes. British media suggest that his potential successors include Mourinho, Postecoglou, and Brendan Rodgers, with Mourinho being the frontrunner.

Nuno’s Nottingham Forest achieved success through counter-attacking football, and Mourinho’s tactical philosophy closely mirrors that of his fellow Portuguese coach. Both are known for their counter-attacking style. Therefore, if Nottingham Forest appoints Mourinho, there would be a seamless tactical transition. Mourinho would also return to the Premier League with strong fan interest while leading the team in the Europa League. Fenerbahçe, who dismissed Mourinho, also competes in the Europa League this season, but they won’t face Nottingham Forest in the league stage.
