U23 Thailand has set a major goal to win against Malaysia to earn a place in the Asian Championship final round.
After a dramatic draw with Lebanon in the second match, U23 Thailand currently leads Group F with 4 points and a better goal difference. However, the ticket to advance is not yet guaranteed for coach Thawachai Damrongongtrakun’s team as they still have one more match to play.
In the final round, the host team will face their Southeast Asian rivals, U23 Malaysia. Being in a group with strong teams like Thailand and Lebanon means Malaysia’s chances to advance are slim. Nevertheless, their recent 7-0 win over Mongolia has reignited hope for coach Nafuzi Zain’s squad.
In theory, U23 Thailand is considered the stronger side and is likely to claim victory in this match. Through two games, the home players have shown confident play with an effective offense. However, they must not be complacent.
Because U23 Malaysia still has a chance to qualify. Speaking to the media, Malaysia’s coach said: "I feel relieved with this win, having secured valuable three points, and I am proud of the players for bouncing back after the loss to Lebanon. The 7-0 victory over Mongolia is a crucial result that keeps our hopes alive."
