The Vietnam national team achieved a dramatic 4-3 victory over CAHN club in today's behind-closed-doors friendly. This captivating match immediately stirred reactions among Southeast Asian fans.
Vietnam’s national team played their second closed friendly during the September training camp, facing Hanoi Police Club (CAHN) at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. After an intense 90 minutes featuring a total of 7 goals, the squad led by acting coach Đinh Hồng Vinh emerged with a 4-3 win, concluding their September friendlies with one win and one loss.
In this match, unlike Nam Dinh club, CAHN surprised by fielding a lineup consisting entirely of domestic players, including two key members of the Vietnam national team: Nguyễn Quang Hải and goalkeeper Filip Nguyễn. Just in the 2nd minute, Tiến Linh opened the scoring for Vietnam, followed by Tuấn Hải doubling the lead at the 36th minute. However, CAHN managed to reduce the deficit to 1-2 with Đức Nam’s goal in the 41st minute.
The second half became even more exciting. At the 70th minute, Châu Ngọc Quang capitalized on a defensive error by CAHN to increase the lead to 3-1. In the final moments, the tension peaked as Lê Văn Đô scored twice for CAHN in the 85th and 90th minutes, with Văn Vĩ’s goal in between securing a 4-3 victory for Vietnam. Previously, in the first friendly, Vietnam had suffered a 0-4 defeat against Nam Dinh’s foreign star-studded squad.
After the match ended, the Southeast Asian fan community expressed mixed reactions. User Qiqi Moeldjadi posted a suggestive question: “Is Vietnam not playing against any national teams during this camp? Are they trying to let Indonesia surpass them in the FIFA rankings?” Shortly after, Ocan Haha responded: “You don’t know what you’re talking about... Vietnam isn’t participating this time because their coach is leading the U23 team in the Asian qualifiers.”
Meanwhile, several international fans expressed doubts about Vietnam’s form. Argaa Vchtm III from Indonesia questioned: “If they struggle even against a domestic club, how will they perform against Indonesia in the AFF Cup?” Additionally, some fans humorously referenced the earlier loss to Nam Dinh. Myat Noe (Myanmar) simply commented: “Just play again against Nam Dinh.”
The victory over CAHN helped Vietnam regain some confidence after the defeat to Nam Dinh, but their performances still left many Southeast Asian fans skeptical. The Vietnam team has much work to do before entering important upcoming tournaments, especially the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
