The Vietnam Football Federation gave a quick bonus of 500 million VND to the U23 Vietnam squad following their 1-0 win against U23 Singapore in the second round of the 2026 U23 Asian Cup qualifiers.
On the evening of September 6, the U23 Vietnam team defeated U23 Singapore 1-0 thanks to a crucial goal by Lê Văn Thuận in the 79th minute, maintaining their top position in Group C of the 2026 U23 Asian Cup qualifiers.
In this match, coach Kim Sang Sik rotated the squad, making six changes to the starting lineup compared to the first game.
From the kickoff, the players in white quickly took control of the game and continuously threatened the opponent’s goal. On the other side, U23 Singapore organized a very tight defense. In the first half, Đình Bắc, Văn Trường, Văn Khang, and Viktor Lê all had chances, but the outstanding performance of goalkeeper Aizil Yazid, along with the goalpost and crossbar, prevented any goals for the home team.
In the second half, coach Kim Sang Sik introduced Phi Hoàng, Văn Thuận, and Thanh Nhàn to increase pressure on Singapore’s defense. However, goalkeeper Yazid remained solid, making several crucial saves. Meanwhile, U23 Vietnam players like Thanh Nhàn and Thái Sơn also missed opportunities when the ball hit the crossbar or flew over during close-range attempts.
The turning point came in the 79th minute when Phi Hoàng delivered an accurate cross from the left wing, and midfielder Lê Văn Thuận rose high to head the ball into the net, securing the victory for his team.
Especially after the match, to motivate the entire team, the Vietnam Football Federation decided to award the whole U23 Vietnam squad a bonus of 500 million VND. This will serve as encouragement for coach Kim Sang Sik’s team to fully focus on the decisive match against U23 Yemen in the final round on September 9. With at least a draw, U23 Vietnam will advance as the group leaders.
