Senegalese forward Nicolas Jackson confirms he does not regret the manner in which he departed Chelsea following his last-minute move to Bayern Munich.
Joining Chelsea in 2023, Jackson never fully won over the Blues fans due to inconsistent finishing and somewhat rash challenges. Nevertheless, he still managed to earn honors like the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup while wearing the Stamford Bridge jersey.
After moving to Bayern on loan with an option to buy, Jackson spoke about this decision with Tuttosport: “The emotions are very strong but not for the reasons people might think. I’m simply happy to have signed with one of the biggest clubs in the world, to experience a new league, new teammates. At the same time, there’s a bit of sadness about leaving Chelsea, where I shared many memories with teammates and fans.”
The 24-year-old striker states he is fully focused on his new journey: “Now I am 100% committed to this new project and eager to enjoy the passionate atmosphere at Allianz Arena.”
Many reports suggest Jackson left Chelsea due to discomfort after the club signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. However, the Senegalese striker denies this and emphasizes: “Football is full of cycles. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and that’s part of the game. I respect coach Maresca and have learned a lot from him. He has his own philosophy and style. I just needed a change at this stage. No regrets, only gratitude for my time at Chelsea.”
The transfer to Bayern nearly fell through when Chelsea considered withdrawing at the last minute due to Delap’s hamstring injury. However, negotiations resumed and the deal was finalized on the final day of the transfer window.
Jackson reveals he was never worried: “Honestly, my advisors and I were always confident. I never doubted that I would sign with Bayern. I chose to stay positive, my health and that of my loved ones is good, I’m fortunate to be a professional player. That’s enough.”
Jackson is expected to debut for Bayern after the international break, when the “Bavarians” face Hamburg. If not ready, he might have a special match against Chelsea again in the Champions League.
