Manchester United just secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Burnley in the latest Premier League round, allowing coach Ruben Amorim to temporarily relieve pressure after a turbulent period.
During the match at Old Trafford, MU took the lead twice but were also twice equalized by Burnley. It wasn’t until the 90+7 minute that the Red Devils could breathe easy when Bruno Fernandes calmly converted a penalty after VAR confirmed Amad Diallo was pulled inside the box.
Throughout the game, Amorim’s squad fired 26 shots, achieving an expected goals (xG) value of 3.54. These stats highlight MU’s dominance in creating chances, though they had to sweat hard to claim all three points.

After the game, coach Ruben Amorim emphasized that the most crucial factor was his players’ fighting spirit: “When players give their utmost effort, I will always support them. Even if Amad misses a golden chance, I still back him if he gives everything. The key is for the whole team to maintain this level of effort.”
He also admitted that the team started well but began to falter after making substitutions in the second half: “Effort was always there. We tried to get more players into the penalty area, not just passing around. The players executed exactly what we practiced and discussed during the week. That is the most important element.”

The win over Burnley was seen as essential after MU’s elimination from the Carabao Cup by fourth-tier side Grimsby. Earlier, Amorim shocked many by admitting “changes are needed,” even revealing moments when he contemplated resigning and other times when he wanted to stay with MU for 20 years.
When asked if there were talks about his future during the international break, Amorim said: “I’m always in communication with the management, I understand the context, the emotions, and everything. Sometimes I say things, and today I repeat: this is a good day but just one victory. For me, what needs to be recognized is that we should have won differently, without enduring so much. We performed well against Arsenal, somewhat against Fulham, and today was similar.”

Despite earning all three points, MU still revealed familiar defensive issues. They conceded two goals from aerial situations and showed weak defensive organization. This remains a major challenge for Amorim, especially with tough matches ahead against strong teams like Manchester City and Chelsea.
