Vietnam national team will not cut players before departing for Germany

The Vietnam U16 women's team maintains the identical lineup from the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship for their upcoming training.

On the afternoon of August 30, the Vietnam U16 women's team returned home after completing their participation in the 2025 Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship held in Surakarta, Indonesia, finishing in third place overall. During the tournament, the Vietnam U16 women's team showed impressive form by winning all their group stage matches, defeating the U16 women's teams of Cambodia and Myanmar consecutively to reach the semifinals.

In the semifinal match against the Thailand U16 women's team, Coach Okiyama Masahiko’s players fought hard but lost 1-3, moving on to the third-place playoff against the host, Indonesia U16 women's team.

Despite facing intense pressure from the crowd at Manahan Stadium (Surakarta city), the Vietnam U16 women's team played resiliently, drawing 1-1 after regular time. In the nerve-wracking penalty shootout, the Vietnamese girls excelled by winning 7-6, concluding the tournament proudly with a bronze medal.

According to plan, after returning to Vietnam, the team will continue training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center (Hanoi). After the September 2 holiday break, Coach Okiyama Masahiko will keep the same player list from the Southeast Asian U16 Women's Championship to prepare for a 10-day training camp in Germany (from September 9 to 21).

This is an important preparation step towards the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Asian Qualifiers, where the Vietnam U17 women's team will play at home in Binh Duong in Group D in mid-October 2025.

Commenting on the team’s performance, Coach Okiyama said that the players and coaching staff united and fought together. “We aimed to finish the match within 90 minutes. However, the opponent played well, strongly, and had the home advantage.

Despite that, under high pressure, our players remained confident, did not lose spirit, and fought with all their might. The penalty shootout was also a valuable experience for the players. Playing away, under the crowd's pressure, such opportunities are not always available, and our players performed well,” Coach Okiyama stated.
