LOL international discussions on the S15 World Championship storyline
This year's S15 World Championship will be hosted in China, across three cities: Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu. The overall situation this year shows LCK dominating the scene, while the LPL has experienced a sharp decline in competitiveness and excitement.

The LCK region has maintained its strength, making it highly likely that LCK will continue to defend their S tournament title.
A hot topic is whether Faker and T1’s S tournament buff will enable them to secure another championship, or if GEN can break the losing streak and end T1’s dream of a three-peat.
Recently, international forums have been discussing an interesting S15 World Championship storyline, focusing on what happened in previous S tournaments held in China, revealing a curse that Faker seems to carry, as his performance in China-hosted S tournaments has historically been poor.
In 2017, the first time the World Championship was held in China, SKT reached the finals but were swept 3-0 by SSG. A legendary moment occurred when Faker broke down in tears at the table after the loss.
Faker’s curse, GEN holds the championship script
Interestingly, many thought Faker’s era was over then, but he proved his resilience by winning back-to-back championships after another failure at S12, securing his fifth title and solidifying his status as the GOAT of League of Legends.
However, another intriguing fact is that before SSG’s 2017 victory, Faker and SKT had also won two consecutive championships, only to be defeated by SSG in their attempt at a three-peat.
This year presents the same scenario again: Faker is chasing a three-peat, with his opponent being the newly renamed GEN.
This situation is quite unfavorable for Faker. It can be said that GEN is entering this year’s World Championship with the championship script in hand, and their players have additional advantages related to the Chinese hosting cities.
This brings us to the 2020 World Championship, the second time China hosted the event, where DWG won the title. Canyon, now a GEN player, was part of that winning team.
Regarding the hosting cities, this year’s World Championship will take place in Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu. Ruler won the championship in Beijing with SSG teammates and earned MVP, Canyon took the title in Shanghai with DWG, and GEN claimed the MSI championship in Chengdu.
GEN most likely to win, Faker faces challenges
From my perspective, GEN has the highest chance of winning this year from every angle. In terms of strength, GEN’s roster is top-tier, with every position selected for the best lineup. Meanwhile, T1 has weakened this year, losing Zeus, which appears to have significantly impacted the team.
From a metaphysical perspective, GEN enjoys perfect timing, location, and harmony. Although they have dominated the LCK for years, their World Championship performances have been underwhelming. Yet, instead of declining, they have grown stronger and evolved to a new level. This year seems ripe for their revenge storyline to unfold.
However, it must be said that their opponent is terrifyingly formidable. Faker is the one who can break any rule or curse in League of Legends. He excels at turning unfavorable situations around, constantly creating new miracles throughout his career, especially during his back-to-back championship era.
To defeat such a T1, one must perform at their absolute best on all fronts, maintain the highest standards, and keep a calm mindset to have a chance at victory.
