Are the Lakers about to make a move? Reports reveal that Doncic inquired about acquiring Giannis, with Reeves potentially part of the trade package.

On December 5th Beijing time, Fox Sports reporter Lou Canellis revealed that NBA superstar Luka Doncic approached the Los Angeles Lakers to see if the team could acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks via trade. Giannis had indicated his wish to depart in the offseason, with the Knicks as his top choice.

“I can clearly tell everyone,” Canellis stated, “that months ago, Giannis wanted to be traded, with the Knicks as his first option. However, the Knicks were unwilling to increase their offer, only willing to put Karl-Anthony Towns forward as the main asset, which was insufficient for the Bucks who were determined to move Giannis.”

“Additionally, I’ve learned that the Lakers actively inquired, and Doncic himself personally investigated to confirm if the Lakers could finalize a deal with the Bucks. Keep in mind, Giannis is fully committed to leaving, with his main goal being a championship run.”

The Lakers have a history of orchestrating major trades: they acquired Kareem Abdul-Jabbar from the Bucks, Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic, Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans, and also obtained Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks.

To acquire Giannis, the Lakers will likely have to give up all their future draft picks plus Reaves and Hachimura. It’s worth noting that Giannis’s contract does not include a trade veto clause.

Currently, the Lakers hold a 15-5 record, ranking second in the Western Conference, while the Bucks stand at 10-13, sitting tenth in the East.

Previously, Shams reported that Giannis and his agent are negotiating with the Bucks regarding the forward’s future. The two-time MVP is earning $54.1 million this season and holds a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.

Giannis led the Bucks to their first-ever championship in 2021 by defeating the Phoenix Suns, but since then, Milwaukee has only advanced past the first round of the playoffs once.

The Lakers won the title in 2020 thanks to the duo of Davis and LeBron James, but have not returned to the Finals stage since then.
