On October 26th Beijing time, the Grizzlies routed the Pacers 128-103. The 11th pick Coward played 23 minutes off the bench, hitting 9 of 13 shots including a flawless 6-for-6 from three, tallying 27 points, 6 boards, 4 assists, and a +36 plus-minus, both the highest on the team. Back at the 2025 draft, the Trail Blazers selected Coward with the 11th pick and traded him to the Grizzlies in exchange for the 16th pick used on Hansen, plus a future first-rounder and two second-round picks.

Now, Coward, who was traded for Hansen, has broken out. Actually, in the first two regular-season games, Coward already showed solid performances with 14 and 16 points respectively. By the third game, he delivered an impressive 27-point outing. Meanwhile, Yang Hansen is still adjusting, scoring only 2 points in each of the first two games.
During his college career, Coward had a three-point shooting percentage of 38.8%, with an effective catch-and-shoot accuracy of 60.0%. His shooting skills are outstanding, confident and consistent whether shooting mid-range or attacking low post. Defensively, he excels in physicality, moves laterally quickly, can switch across multiple positions, and has precise timing for help defense, blocks, and contesting shots.

From the start of the season, Coward and Yang Hansen are at different stages of development. Coward appears to have quickly adapted to the NBA pace and demonstrated strong scoring ability. Yang Hansen, transitioning from the CBA to the NBA, might need more time than other rookies. As new coach Spreit said, "Yang Hansen is a player with great potential, and we must be patient with him."
