Details of Jordan's involvement in NBA broadcasts revealed: Regular segment sharing insights presented through recorded clips

On October 21st Beijing time, NBC made clearer the exact role Michael Jordan will play in their NBA broadcast return. The network showed a teaser building up to the October 22 season opener doubleheader, including footage of Mike Tirico interviewing the Hall of Fame legend.

NBC then officially confirmed that the 62-year-old Jordan will participate in a recurring segment called “MJ: Masterclass Insights,” which will debut during the season opener. Part of the first episode will air during halftime of the Rockets vs. Thunder game on Tuesday.

NBC stated this segment will run throughout the season, with Jordan sharing his perspectives on games and players. This marks his first official involvement in NBA broadcasting since retiring as a player two decades ago.

According to reporter Alex Sherman, Jordan’s contributions will primarily be delivered via recorded clips aired during pregame or halftime shows.

Regardless of the airtime length, his appearances will draw significant attention. As a legendary figure who has mostly kept a low profile post-retirement, this rare public engagement offers fans unique insights into his basketball views.

Jordan has never hosted a TV show before, but given his iconic status during the Chicago Bulls dynasty in the 1990s, when he was almost synonymous with NBC’s basketball coverage, this partnership makes sense.

However, the content of the series remains unclear. It is uncertain whether Jordan will analyze current players’ game footage like the late Kobe Bryant did in ESPN’s “Detail” series, or simply recount his own legendary career and the “keys” to his success.

U.S. media suggest that if the series resembles “The Last Dance,” mixing clips from Jordan’s prime with his reflections on what it takes to be “great,” it might not be very compelling. Nonetheless, having Jordan participate in any basketball-related interview is significant. So even if he only discusses his playing days, it will surely delight fans.
