On September 7th Beijing time, Anthony was formally inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. In a recent podcast, he spoke about his close friend LeBron James and humorously recommended that LeBron should consider retiring.
Anthony was also among the NBA’s elite players. He and LeBron have shared many years together, even becoming teammates on the Lakers during Anthony’s final NBA season (2021-22).
“He’s still playing, it’s unbelievable, brother,” Anthony said about the nearly 41-year-old LeBron. “He’s my good friend. Since we were 17 or 18, people have always talked about us together. Our careers have been closely linked and intertwined.”
“Now that I’m entering the Hall of Fame, I truly hope he retires soon and comes over here (to the Hall). It’s about time, he deserves a break.”
In the 2024-25 season, LeBron played 70 regular-season games for the Lakers, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game, earning a spot on the NBA All-Second Team.
This summer, LeBron chose to exercise his player option to remain with the Lakers for the next season. Notably, this is the first time in his career that he is in a “contract year” (with his contract expiring after the upcoming season).
LeBron led the Lakers to an NBA championship in 2020, and now he is still chasing another title, with his partner having changed from Davis to Doncic. Will LeBron have a chance to win another ring before retiring? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
