Shohei Ohtani faced boos from Blue Jays fans during his at-bat in the top of the ninth inning.

During Game 1 of this year’s MLB World Series, Toronto Blue Jays secured an 11-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at their home field, gaining the first win in the series. As Ohtani came up to bat in the top of the ninth inning, the entire stadium shouted "We don't need him" to distract him, marking an interesting scene in the game’s early stage.

There is a background to the Blue Jays fans’ actions. In the free-agent market two years ago in December, the Blue Jays were among the teams with a chance to sign this top player, with rumors even suggesting Ohtani boarded a flight to Canada. According to details recently shared by Blue Jays reporter Keegan Matheson, after their meeting, Ohtani took all the items the team had prepared for him, including jerseys and equipment, and even left the stadium with his dog Decoy wearing a custom team jacket. However, Ohtani ultimately announced on Instagram that he would join the Dodgers, leaving the Blue Jays out of the bidding battle.

When Ohtani visited Toronto in April 2024, fans greeted him with boos. He responded graciously, saying, "I do feel the fans here are passionate, and when the passion runs high, this is the kind of welcome they give."

Before this game, the home crowd also took the opportunity to boo him during his introduction, and during his at-bat in the ninth inning, they again shouted "We don't need him."
