As the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays approaches, Dodgers star Mookie Betts shared in a pre-game interview that having teammates like Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto has significantly boosted the team's strength. He emphasized that this is the team's "championship window," and they must seize the opportunity to win now.
The Dodgers won the World Series last year and are aiming for back-to-back titles this year; this is their first time facing the Blue Jays in the World Series. If they succeed in defending their title, it will mark their third championship in six years.
Discussing the goal of achieving three championships in six years, Betts said that the ultimate aim of playing baseball is to win the World Series. "Winning three titles in six years would be an incredible accomplishment. My goal, as well as the entire team's, is to one day be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Winning championships definitely helps in reaching that goal."
Regarding the idea that the Dodgers are building a "dynasty," Betts admitted he hasn’t given it much thought. "Since I’m part of it, I understand how difficult it is. Making the playoffs every year and being a contender annually might qualify as a dynasty. But more than what people call it, I focus on enjoying the present moment."
On how the extended six-day rest affects hitting rhythm, Betts acknowledged it does impact timing and flow. "You can only regain the game feel through actual play. We faced some challenges after rest last year, but there’s no magic fix. The only solution is to keep playing. Even with 5-6 days off, I believe we can handle it."
Betts compared his first World Series experience to now: "The first time, I was just excited to be there. Now I know what it takes to win and how tough it is. With experience, I’ve learned how to overcome obstacles. This team’s strength is staying composed no matter the situation."
When evaluating this year’s Dodgers, Betts said, "Having teammates like Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto has greatly strengthened our lineup. This is our 'championship period,' and I believe we must take advantage of this moment to win. Progressing step by step every day is key."
Regarding areas he still needs to improve offensively, Betts believes the key is to maintain his own style. "Consistently having good at-bats and smart offensive strategies. There’s no special formula. Whether the score is 3-1 or 10-9, we have to find a way to win. We are ready for any game situation."
