During her career, this attractive female athlete earned numerous valuable titles: World Championship, Sudirman Cup, ASIAD, along with the world number 2 ranking in badminton.
The South Korean badminton player Chae Yu-jung officially ended her professional career at just 30 years old.
Born in 1995 in Busan, Chae Yu-jung has been one of South Korea’s top doubles players over recent years. Competing in two doubles categories, the mixed doubles event brought her significant success and earned her admiration from badminton fans worldwide.
Teaming up with the renowned doubles specialist Seo Seung-jae, this pair performed outstandingly and secured numerous prestigious titles in top global tournaments. In the BWF World Tour, Chae/Seo won 6 championships, including the notable Super 1000 China Open 2023. Additionally, the Korean duo was runner-up at the BWF World Tour Finals 2020 and the All England Open 2023, and they reached the world number 2 ranking in March 2024.
At the national team level, Chae Yu-jung contributed to South Korea’s victories in the 2017 Sudirman Cup, the 2023 ASIAD gold medal, and the world championship title in Copenhagen, Denmark, the same year.
After splitting from Seo Seung-jae, Chae Yu-jung partnered with young player Lee Jong-min. Their best results included bronze medals at the Orleans Masters and All England Championship earlier this year. Chae’s final match was in the round of 16 at the French Open, where she lost to the Scottish pair Alexander Dunn and Julie Macpherson in three games.
Chae Yu-jung had to retire early because there was no longer a qualifying round for mixed doubles; to continue competing, she would have had to switch back to women’s doubles. Although she played women’s doubles early in her career, returning to that discipline after focusing on mixed doubles for so long would be very challenging.
